As reported by BBC News (Amazing how a foreign network has the best coverage of American events.) a woman in an Iron Lung died today as the result of a power outage.
As expected "Experts" on the matter are blaming video games. This time it is once again everyone's favorite whipping boy for social irresponsibilty, Grand Theft Auto 4.
Excerpt from the story:
Dianne Odell died at her family house some 80 miles (129km) north-east of Memphis, Tennessee. She was 61. Family members say they were unable to get an emergency generator after the power failure knocked out electricity. Ms Odell had been confined to the apparatus since she was diagnosed with polio as a three-year-old child.
3 Years old. That means she was in the machine for 58 years, thats almost as long as some of us played Civilization or Halo! Not quite as long as Nintendogs of course, those puppies are just so damn cute.
How can they possibly blame video games for this scandal though? Clearly the woman simply had a failure with her outdated machinery do to a power outtage....or was it?
We asked Dr. Imag A. Nary at the Cornell University school of Spinal, Respiratory and Parody Studies, Dr. Nary had this to say "While it appears she suffered from Polio, Ms. Odell's condition was clearly brought on by a serious bought of game addiction. After 58 years of nonstop low level missions trying to make her way in the mean streets of Vice City her finally wore out. The poor woman just couldn't stop killin' tha hos."
Here at 2BN we thought it was a bit strange for a well respected doctor to use such language, however, since I just now made him up anyways, we're willing to overlook this one and just once again scold Grand Theft Auto for once again claiming another vicitim with senseless violence. Shame on you video games, shame on you.
